To "know" or to "experience"?
In this fluid & uncertain age, what does it mean to have a “strategy”? Is it really possible to rely on “planning”? Is it a confidential path to a pre-defined future state or just a compass showing you the “right” direction? Is it a financial number, or a “balanced” approach combining technology, process, learning goals? All of them, non of them? Is it a written manifestation, or just a wishful thinking in somebody’s mind? Is it a scenario or a mathematical & logical model?
Howsoever, in 21st century organizations, we need wisdom more than ever! That’s why organizations are excessively talking about strategy and leadership. In the age of information, we don’t need any more book to teach us “how to define stylish strategies” but we need mental clarity, focus and intuition. We need to digest what we already have! We do not need static documentations, but a dynamic and authentic way of being in business; mental agility, self- awareness, teamwork, ability put aside your ego, respecting the human dignity of other people, flexibility...
"Personal development" is not easy, why?
The key barrier to this is the individual leader’s self awareness and capacity to change. We need to go beyond traditional ideas about leadership such as “leaders do not show weakness” or “leaders have all the answers”. That's why contemporary leadership aprooaches invite leaders to step into their own power through a unique and authentic development path, rather than trying to emulate others around them.
There are two ways to act: You can act consciously and you can act impulsively. Some people act impulsively and call it intuition. Intuition is never impulsive. Intuition is a conscious activity. - Yogi Bhajan
Personal development is a journey from the "ego" perspective of "homo economicus" to "intuition"... The word "ego" is used to identify subconscious defense mechanisms and fixated attitudes of individuals, teams and organizations. Here you can find the main differences;
Ego is logical – Intuition is creative
Ego is fear based – Intuition is based on sharing & openness
Ego sounds harsh – Intuition is neutral
Ego protects a mental image – Intuition protects your inner journey
Ego jumps around – Intuition is consistent
So, can we make your choices consciously or let your subconscious patterns & defence mechanisms, deep assumptions limit us? Why do individual, teams, organizations seem to self-sabotage their own good "change" intentions so often? Do we know why we do what we do? Are we aware of our authentic gifts? And vices?
If you practice business consciously, you will make better decisions, because you'll have a fuller understanding of all the facts, undistorted by personal agendas. - Amrit Singh Khalsa
Enneagram as a powerful catalyst for change and self-awareness
The modern business world is challenging organisations and the individuals who work within them to change and adapt faster than ever. That's why we are incrementally talking about the "learning agility" concept. In order to be "agile" in terms of learning, you need to step out of your comfort zone. What actually does it mean? Here comes the challange; it starts with accepting who you are... Then comes being responsible of your "gifts" and moving with a purpose... The Enneagram is a great tool to discover deepest vices, highest virtues and transformational path for individuals, teams and organization through self integration.
Enneagram a holistic model of human development that describes 9 types, 27 subtypes or worldviews that reflect how people, teams, and organizations think, feel and act and how they relate to themselves and others. It is a powerful catalyst for accelerating and deepening change, enabling shifts in consciousness that enable more mindful, diverse and future-fit strategies and business processes. It does not teach you becoming someone else or it does not try to add a new behavioral competency set to the organization. It rather takes you to a point where you can see all the possibilities for a conscious action.
Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are. - Brené Brown
Much more than a personality profile, the Enneagram combines psychology, neuroscience and emotional intelligence to dive deeper into subconscious motivations, beliefs, defences and fixed behaviour patterns both for individuals and groups. It does not put people into boxes, but advocates including all these diverse perspectives, and uses each individual’s unique capabilities to create a business that will thrive in our changing world.
One tool, many applications
Most of us are familiar with the application of the Enneagram at the level of the individual transformation. On the other hand, this tool is more than just a personality test. It also offers insights for complex organisational systems such as team dynamics and organizational culture analysis.
The Enneagram is currently applied organisational areas, including:
Culture and Engagement
Organisational Leadership
Organisational Change Management
Team Development
Talent Management
Diversity
Enneagram helps us to understand the cultural and interpersonal complexity in an organization by linking beliefs, values and motivations of individual, team, team leader, whole organization and wider stakeholder groups.
Inspired by Enneagram, contemporary learning organization techniques and PwC's people centric change management approach, we offer a path of self-awareness, self-initiation, and self-qualification for individuals, teams and organizations.
Too many people undervalue what they are, and overvalue what they’re not. - Malcom S. Forbes
